Low income no longer means a low educational standard

A common problem among low-income families and neighborhoods is a lack of support to supplement their children's education. These families are either forced to keep their children in an undesirable situation, or their children grow up lacking an educational standard which ultimately prevents them from finding future success in our society.

Often the will to help at-risk students is very low as most people may fail to relate to their condition. As a result, the need to provide them with a better education goes unmet.

Two grade levels forward

S.T.A.R.S. is a program that has been proven to increase performance levels by as much as 2 grade levels, with similar movement in grades and test scores. S.T.A.R.S. is a place where students can benefit from strong mentoring as well as role models dedicated to their success. It is a program where every dollar you invest will be directed towards a predictable success outcome.

The S.T.A.R.S. Academy has excelled in this regard by providing help to hundreds of students. We hire 45 certified teachers with proven knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study. Due to support through donations and partnerships, S.T.A.R.S. has expanded to a second service site, thereby increasing the number of students that can be served on a single Saturday.

Beyond core educational reinforcement

Our successful academic structure provides mentorship to children who are in immediate need of positive role models and academic reinforcement, without losing any valuable time in modeling positive behavior and acquiring the tools for educational success. These youth can immediately experience the benefits of having a network of caring, adult professionals in their daily lives, and begin to lay the foundation towards becoming healthy, productive and successful adults.
