S.T.A.R.S. Overview
History
S.T.A.R.S. Math & English Academy began in 2000 as an informal tutoring program by former Big Brother and Morehouse College Alumnus, Elijah Watson. After ten years of perseverance and proven results, S.T.A.R.S. Math & English Academy became a 501(c)(3) organization in May 2010.
Mission
The S.T.A.R.S. Academy seeks to improve the math, English, and reading skills of children in need of educational assistance by at least two grade levels.
Vision
That our students will have the knowledge necessary to go to college for free!

Achievements
- S.T.A.R.S. Math & English Academy has served over 1,000 students since its inception.
- Elijah Watson was named a 2011 Bank of America Local Hero.
- Elijah Watson was named 2008 Charlotte Mentor of the Year.
- Named one of Top 8 math tutors in Charlotte for 2017, 2018 and 2019 by Expertise.
The Cost
S.T.A.R.S. Math & English Academy provides approximately $500,000 of free academic enrichment per year for students in grades 3-12 annually through the Saturday and High School Academies and the EOG Boot Camp.
